Ask an Alim

punishment and repentance

Q:

Hi There,

My question is- If Allah forgives all sins (After sincere repentance) then why would muslims volunteer to be stoned to death for adultery? Wouldn’t they just go back home, repent and move on.

I know in islamic states that stoning is a deterrent so people dont do it. However in the eyes of allah is sincere repentence enough for such a grave sin? If a sinner commited this crime but went throughout his entire life never doing it again can he be saved?

A:

Assalamu alaykum

Thank you for your Question.

Indeed Allah can forgive all sins committed against Himself if a person repented with all the conditions necessary for it.

Kindly Refer to the link below to read on conditions on repentance:

Repentance

Adultery is one of those sins that Allah will definitely forgive if a person sincerely repented over it and never went back to it.

Also,it’s good to know that stonning of an adulterer has to have many prior conditions to mature to that stage. Hence, there is room for a sinner to turn back to Allah , ask for forgiveness and put his life back on track.

Hope this helps,
